Statement on the Alabama Accountability Act Amendment

Tallahassee, Fla. – ExcelinEd in Action issued the following statement on the passage of Alabama Senate Bill 123, which expands funding sources for the state’s tax-credit scholarship program and provides for other improvements.

“Senate President Pro Tempore Del Marsh is one of the nation’s leading advocates for children, especially for those who are trapped in underperforming schools.

“Every child, regardless of zip code, deserves a quality education that prepares them for success in the classroom and in life. Thankfully, Alabama is expanding access to a quality education for underserved students.” – J. Alex Kelly, National Legislative Director, ExcelinEd in Action

In 2013, the Alabama Legislature passed the Alabama Accountability Act, sponsored by Senate President Pro Tempore Marsh, creating the state’s first educational choice program.

Nationwide, tax-credit scholarship programs provide quality educational options for more than 230,000 of America’s neediest students.

January 2017 analysis of the Alabama Accountability Act shows that tax credit scholarships result in financial savings for taxpayers.
