ExcelinEd in Action Commends Oklahoma Higher Education and Career Tech Committee for Advancing Economic Security Report 
Bill will create report to help students chart successful career and college path

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, the Oklahoma House of Representatives Higher Education and Career Tech Committee passed HB 3028, sponsored by Representative John Paul Jordan, to create an annual report for parents, students and others with the necessary information to make informed decisions about college and career choices, including information about potential future employment and wages, frequently referred to as an “Economic Security Report.”

“We applaud this legislation for refocusing education around what is most important – student learning. Parents and students deserve the best information available so they can make informed decisions about a field of study and career that maximizes students’ talents and interests. With this proposed legislation, Oklahoma is taking an important step forward to prepare its students for the rigors of college, careers and a competitive global workforce,” said ExcelinEd in Action National Legislative Director J. Background on Economic Security Reports and HB 3028:

• An Economic Security Report is an annual report that describes employment and earning outcomes for degrees or certificates from public postsecondary educational institutions to allow students and parents to make informed decisions regarding college and career.
• The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education would prepare the report, in coordination with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
• The report would include data on:
  • The employment and earnings by graduates of a degree or certificate program from a public postsecondary educational institution.
  • The average student loan debt of a graduate of a degree or certificate program from a public postsecondary educational institution.
